On Aug. 7, 2004, the CAW Local 200 Women’s Committee held a giant yard sale to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Society. The weather was perfect and there was a constant flow of people picking up bargains, enjoying a hot dog or just enjoying the day. There were also many people who shared their own experiences with breast cancer, either personally or with a family member. I guess this shouldn’t be surprising when statistics show that one in nine women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. On behalf of the committee, I’d like to thank the membership for coming out and showing their support, both through their donation of goods for us to sell and for showing up to make the day a great success. Together we helped us raise over $1,000 for breast cancer research. All items donated for sale that weren't sold were donated to the Border City Boxing Club for their fundraiser the following day.
