BACK TO EDUCATION COMMITTEE HOME

This video was taken at a demonstration which took place on November 16, 2004, at the corner of Wyandotte and Ouellette at 4:00 pm. It was the Fall 2004 CAW PEL (Paid Education Leave) participants experience with activism for their PEL project. The group consists of Jackie Oickle, Dan Levac, Ken Lebert, James Gilbert, Rick Endler and Rob Trahan (Siemens in Chatham). It was meant for information sharing and educating people about Canada's proposed intent to join in agreement with the United States Ballistic Missile Defence Program. We handed out pamphlets at this site then later at the University of Windsor.

For the most we had really good response.  There were a few people who were challenging (one fellow thought that since we are against missile defence we must be for missiles), but all except one listened to what we had to say.  There were actually people who stood at the corner for 5 or more lights talking before crossing.  There were many people who were appreciative of our efforts. Some who didn't care and some who were just too busy.  Overall, the responses were positive.

The demonstration was covered on the 6:00 pm news by CBC & THE NEW WI.  There was a brief story during the CBC radio news the next morning.  The Windsor Star even put in a small piece on it.  In today's paper there was an editorial from a fellow thanking us for openly discussing the subject.
