Locks For Logan Story In 2006 my wife wife Jackie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and as a show of support I was going to shave my head whilst she was in chemo , this didn't wear too well with her so I decided to grow it instead and raise some money and awareness for Breast Cancer that way , also donating my locks to the Windsor Cancer Center who send it off to be made into wigs for cancer patients. This February when I was deciding when to shave, my head my daughter Emma came home from school (St Gabriels) and told me about Logan , a J/K student who had in her own words "bad blood" She is such a caring kid and said we have to pray for him and was crying that night when she said her prayers for Logan. Right than I knew we had to change direction and help this little boy out , from this "Locks for Logan" was born Logan has a very rare form of Leukemia and with infection complications had a detached retina and is now fighting to save the sight in that eye. He has a long 3 year treatment plan and family members are being tested to see if they are a bone marrow match up to now none aren't. Well what started out as an idea to help a JK boy in my kids school turned into an evening that I and many others will remember forever. We opened an account at Motor City Credit Union and made up posters to share the plight of Logan and through the generosity of Ford co-workers , local industries and restaurants the donations came flooding in. On the night there was probably over 500 people packed into the gym at St Gabriel's and you could just feel there was a great atmosphere of caring compassion and love. People were greeted by Doug Sole (Cyl Blocks TMEP) who brought out his bar stool racers to show . Then once inside Lisa and Lindsay TMEP security guards dressed as clowns painted Orange ribbons on the kids faces to show Leukemia awareness their kids also joined in as clowns. Al Fazio's band 3D was on stage to provide the music , food was donated by the Penalty Box and hair cuts for a donation by Salon Utopia. Roger Chauvin 's (TTC in Cams TMEP) daughter Katie sold hand made jewellery she is a very special girl who has started an organization called "Heartstrings" and she donates every penny to the local cancer cure cause.
Logan was able to attend the event with mum Mara and dad Lance who is a local firefighter , this made it all the more special. The hair came off to the tune of "Come Together" by the Beatles from Liverpool of course (my home town) and it couldn't have been more apt because that is exactly what happened and by evenings end we were over the $20,000 mark. I want to also mention Ed Oosterbaan who ran the Boston Marathon for Logan and raised over $2000 himself , if we could bottle his energy we would be rich. Also CAW Local 200 and Community Outreach who made very generous donations we thank you. All in all it was a journey that even in these troubled times just proves that there are still good people more than willing to help a family in need. Thanks so much from myself and the Moore family to everyone involved and to really help me promote Faith In Human Nature. GET WELL SOON LOGIE.
